-Jack Kerouac, On the Road
That's always been a favorite quote of mine. Thanks for letting me share it with you. Burn brightly this weekend, story-makers. See you back here on Monday.

A Tire Swing Story is a bite-sized "imagining" inspired by an object I discover while wandering. It could be a curbside trash gem or a message sprayed on a wall. A lost mitten, or an antique store find. Anything goes. I photograph the object and post them together, the story and its inspiration. There will be a new story every Monday and Wednesday. On Fridays, I'll discuss writing, life, love, and coffee. (In no particular order and maybe all at once.)

Oh yah, one of my faves too. Though i must admit some difficulty meshing the Beats' affinity for Buddhism -- meditation, contemplation, silence and inner knowledge being diametrically opposed to the frenetic noise and activity implied in the quote.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's an American thing, of the era and place: the rebellion against 1950s conformist, the imminent threat of Cold War nuclear annihilation ... all madness, that demands a mad spirituality to counterbalance it.
But the American mind has long been adept at holding two conflicting ideas at the same time.
When in doubt: Road trip!
