A Tire Swing Story is a bite-sized "imagining" inspired by an object I discover while wandering. It could be a curbside trash gem or a message sprayed on a wall. A lost mitten, or an antique store find. Anything goes. I photograph the object and post them together, the story and its inspiration. There will be a new story every Monday and Wednesday. On Fridays, I'll discuss writing, life, love, and coffee. (In no particular order and maybe all at once.)

Casual Fridays: Kerouac and spider stars

  1. Oh yah, one of my faves too. Though i must admit some difficulty meshing the Beats' affinity for Buddhism -- meditation, contemplation, silence and inner knowledge being diametrically opposed to the frenetic noise and activity implied in the quote.

    Maybe it's an American thing, of the era and place: the rebellion against 1950s conformist, the imminent threat of Cold War nuclear annihilation ... all madness, that demands a mad spirituality to counterbalance it.

    But the American mind has long been adept at holding two conflicting ideas at the same time.

    When in doubt: Road trip!
